The New Forest DA, in common with other DA’s, organise weekend meets throughout the camping season. We start our season in early March, with the aptly named Early Birds Meet and continue through the year. All our Meets are open to any Club members and, in the majority of cases, booking is not necessary. We do hold some Winter Meets (November to February) occasionally and these must be booked in advance as numbers can be limited. You can also camp with any other DA or Section.
Our DA provides 2 different types of camping experience. The first being weekend rallies put on a few times a month at various locations around Dorset & Hampshire. These generally run Friday/Sunday but we do hold 4 and 5 night rallies. The rallies are a great way to meet other members (You are not obliged to stay for the full rally). You are of course free to socialise or do your own thing without any pressure. Camping is mainly on green field sites in the Summer with minimum facilities and low seasons on commercial sites with facilities and electric hook up. There is also a South West Region Summer meet held in July in a different DA area each year. This is always a weekend with entertainment and fun. We also put on bigger rallies for Bank Holiday weekends, generally with some social event.
Secondly, we run THS’s (Temporary Holiday Sites). These last 2 to 4 weeks and are held in July, August & September. They are our group’s source of income and your support at these will help funds which we use to subsidise social events both on the rallies and Christmas/pantomime events. The subsidy is a treat for our members who have supported us through the year.
Information on rallies/THS’s is to be found in the Out & About supplement of the Club magazine, The Out&About APP on smartphone, SWR fixture book (when printed), our newsletter Pickets Post via email or on our website. We also have a closed Facebook Group, just click here https://www.facebook.com/groups/newforestda
On this site you will also see a list of our Weekend Meets and Temporary Holiday Sites for this season. You will see we use a variety of venues, with something to suit everyone. You will need your own facilities on most meets. Fresh water and toilet emptying points are always available. On some commercial sites electric points are available for an increased charge. Our Temporary Holiday Sites generally run for 4 weeks at a time and can be a way to enjoy relatively inexpensive holidays. Full details of each THS are listed under THS in our menu on this website .
We also have our own monthly newsletter – “Pickets Post”. This gives greater information on local activities within the DA and is available to DA members. For more details please see this website for back issues. To be added to our distribution list, please email our editor pickets.post@newforestda.com
On Bank Holiday Meets we often have a “Social” programme for the weekend. This could be a DJ, Live Band, Quiz Night, Murder Mystery, Horse Racing or anything else the organisers can think of. We are always open to suggestions. You are welcome to participate as much or as little as you like – the choice is yours.
If you have children, you may be interested to know that the DA is keen to restore its own Youth and Junior Sections looked after by responsible members, usually with children of their own. (For your peace of mind please note that Youth and Junior Leaders are subject to full CRB/DBS checks).
Under the guidance of the Junior Leader the younger members, from 8 to 11 years old, are encouraged to take part in various activities and to eventually take a simple camping test if they so wish. There will generally be one weekend a year devoted to fundraising for the Juniors. These funds enable outings to be arranged. It may be possible for pre-juniors to join in some activities provided that they are accompanied by a parent or guardian.
It is a similar situation for the Youth – once a child reaches the age of 12 years they are eligible to join the Youth Section. Again, a fundraising weekend, once a year, provides funds for this section.
This website contains a current list of Committee Members, any of whom will help you in any way they can. Our AGM is held around February/March time each year and as a member of the New Forest DA you are eligible to attend and vote for members of the committee or even stand yourself.
Please ensure that you always carry your Membership Cards for each adult in your party as you will be asked to show them when you arrive for any Weekend Meet or a stay on our Holiday Site.
All we ask when you rally with us, is that, for your own safety and that of others you adhere to the Club’s rules as set out on the next Tab
Finally, please, have a good time and come and camp with us often.
Happy Camping.
Your NFDA committee
We would respectfully like to draw your attention to the Camping and Caravanning Club rules, which apply to all weekend and holiday sites. These may be used as reference for you and help you to understand what is expected of guests whilst on site.
6 Metre Rule
Units (excluding guy ropes) must be 6 metres apart from adjacent units, measured from the outermost part of a unit, awning pup tent, gazebo or toilet tent. Vehicles can be parked between units, providing that a 3 metre clear space is left within the 6 metre gap at all times.
Pets
Dogs and other pets must be kept under control at all times. No animal is allowed to be loose on site and must always be on a lead. This lead must be less than 2 metres long when placed outside of the owner’s unit. The pet owner is responsible for clearing up after their dog.
Vehicles
Vehicles are restricted to 5 mph and learner drivers are not allowed to drive on site due to club insurance. Cars driven on the field should be kept to a minimum when the ground is wet to reduce damage to the field. Essential repairs to vehicles may be undertaken on the field so that an unrepaired vehicle can leave the site. Maintenance and servicing are not permitted.
Generators
Campers may only use generators with the steward’s permission. If a steward deems the use of a generator to be causing a nuisance to other campers, then the steward has the right to ask the camper to stop using the generator or leave the site. Campers wishing to use generators may be sited away from other units if space is available.
Children
Children are of course always welcome on site. However, campers are respectfully reminded that their children should be under the supervision of their parents/guardians at all times.
Fire Buckets
It is strongly recommended that Members place a full bucket of water outside to their unit for near-to-hand fire fighting in a situation that is safe to do so.
Noise
Noise should be kept to a minimum from radios, televisions and other sources (generators) and there should be no noise, what so ever, between 11pm and 7am.
Kites and firearms etc
It is forbidden to fly kites and model aircraft or to use catapults, airguns, firearms, bows and arrows etc. on and around the site. Ball games are permitted only with the permission of the steward on an open space well away from units. Bubbles should be avoided as they can damage canvas waterproofing.
Units
No unit must be left un-occupied overnight. Stewards may instruct campers to take down their awnings on safety grounds.
Litter
Please do not leave any litter on and around the site. Members must take their refuse home with them if receptacles are not provided.
Trading
Trading is not allowed at a meet unless authorised by the steward. Campers must not advertise goods and services for sale at meets, except with the permission of the steward. Notices may not be displayed on a unit advertising anything whatsoever. A firm’s car or van, which has the firm’s name and description on the sides, is accepted on site.
Q |
Do I need to book? |
A |
There is no need to book a weekend meet unless it specifically says so. In these cases there will be a booking form on our website newforestda.com |
|
|
Q |
Do I pay per person or anything extra for awnings, dogs etc? |
A |
The price you pay covers you for 2 adults and all children under 18. There are no additional charges for dogs, awnings (or extra cars unless the site charges) |
|
|
Q |
How do I pay or weekend meets? |
A |
Pre-booked only meets, we ask that you pay by BACS bank transfer before arrival. Less formal weekend meets, we ask you to pay on arrival by card machine, as we are trying to avoid cash payments. If you cannot pay by card, please use the previously mentioned BACS bank transfer. |
|
|
Q |
Do your sites include Electric Hook Ups and Toilet blocks? |
A |
We generally use a field with basic facilities which include a tap for fresh water and somewhere to empty your toilet waste. We usually ask that you take your household rubbish home with you. However, often at the beginning and end of the season we book commercial sites where additional facilities are available. Electric Hook Up points are often at an extra cost |

|
|
Q |
When does the site close? |
A |
We often have a get together on the last morning of the meet and this is referred to as “Tea round the Pole”. We ask that you bring a mug and your chair and we will provide a hot drink and a biscuit. We will then let you know what is happening over the coming weeks and the time the site will close. |
